Donald Trump has nominated Kash Patel as his FBI Director, but Director Wray is still in place, with two years left in his term.

In order for Patel to take the post, Wray will have to either resign or be given his walking papers as soon as Trump takes office.

Reports are now surfacing that Wray will choose to resign right before Trump assumes office rather than being embarrassed and booted out of the building.

Time to Go

Quite frankly, I am surprised it took Wray this long to get the message, as Trump has been pretty clear that he would boot Wray out of office.

When Wray stiffed his end-of-year hearing, the impression was that he was mailing it in until Trump took office knowing that he would be fired.

Now, however, the Washington Times reports that sources close to Wray say he will be gone before Trump gets into office.

The source reported, “He’s going to be gone at the inauguration. On or before the inauguration.”

Wray came under attack again last week when Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) called him out and demanding his resignation, citing no confidence in the director.

The FBI responded, “The FBI has repeatedly demonstrated our commitment to responding to Congressional oversight and being transparent with the American people.

“Director Wray and Deputy Director Abbate have taken strong actions toward achieving accountability in the areas mentioned in the letter and remain committed to sharing information about the continuously evolving threat environment facing our nation and the extraordinary work of the FBI.”

If Patel gets approved, get ready for the hatchet to fall in FBI leadership.

The feeling is that the core of the agency is still in great shape with great agents, but leadership has gone astray since Comey was running the agency.

It’s time for the FBI to get back to becoming the elite law enforcement agency in the world, and it stops pushing political narratives based on the administration in charge.

I have no doubt that Patel will take on that job and love every second of it.
