Donald Trump’s Defense Secretary has been in a significant fight for his nomination life ever since being named.
The second Pete Hegseth was nominated by Trump, a rehash of past sexual misconduct allegations came to light.
Not only that, but other former co-workers came forward to make Hegseth sound like a raging alcoholic, but it appears to be Hegseth who is flipping the script on everyone.
Coming Around
We knew there would be a problem with the more moderate members of the Senate, so there were likely to be no votes for Hegseth no matter what he did.
But when Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) stated that she was not supporting the nomination, it put the GOP in a bad place in terms of having Hegseth pass through.
Hegseth has been working the room ever since, talking to every Senator possible to belay concerns they have about his alleged drinking issues and party lifestyle.
Since then, Ernst has flipped, now saying that she looks forward to working with Hegseth through this approval process.
Hegseth responded, “I appreciate the time…. amazing conversation, foreign affairs, combat vet, welcomed all of her insight.”
During the early days of this process, Trump and his transition team have been relatively quiet about Hegseth, but now they are going into overdrive to protect and support him.
To that point, Trump-Vance transition spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt added, “Pete Hegseth is an exceptionally qualified, highly educated, and tough patriot who has not only served this country with courage, but has also devoted his life to advocating for our troops and veterans.
“Mr. Hegseth’s extensive military experience, combined with his steadfast commitment to restoring the Pentagon and our armed forces to greatness, will advance President Trump’s vision of returning meritocracy, accountability, and efficiency to the United States military.”
I am still mixed on him, but rest assured, if he does get approved, I will support him, and I hope all those stories about his drunken nights were just that, stories.
I just hope Hegseth is ready to take on such a task, as this will be unlike anything he has ever done before.
