I just read a statement from Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) that shocked me.
McCaul expressed support for Biden sending cluster bombs to Ukraine in the war against Russia.
Oddly enough, it was a Democrat, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), that called Biden out for sending the munitions.
Uhm… War Crimes
The majority of the countries in the world have outlawed cluster bombs.
In addition to the obvious collateral damage when they do detonate properly, there is also a major problem with these munitions not detonating during an attack.
When this happens, these bombs are often left in areas where people can happen upon them later, resulting in innocent people being killed.
I have read reports that rate them among the most unreliable and dangerous weapons that we have in our stockpile.
When Jen Psaki was press secretary and she was asked about Russians using cluster bombs, she said they were reason enough to investigate as a war crime.
This was a golden opportunity for Republicans to attack Biden as a possible war criminal, but McCaul decided to back Biden.
He stated, “All the Ukrainians and (President Volodymyr) Zelensky are asking for is to give them the same weapons the Russians have to use in their own country against Russians who are in their own country.
“They do not want these to be used in Russia.”
This is misstep by McCaul because believe me, there will be a problem at some point with excessive collateral damage or a bomb going off after the fact that hurts innocents.
When that happens, we will hear activists calling out Biden for war crimes, but McCaul will have to sit on the sideline for that since he has openly expressed his support for Biden on this front.
