In a surprise twist, the depraved animal accused by West Virginia of nearly hacking his sister to death with a hatchet “has died” while in custody. Officials aren’t saying much at all. The only thing which leaked through tight police security is that it “wasn’t suicide.” Sounds like it wasn’t natural causes either. He looks a little diabetic. Maybe they gave that Angel of Death nurse from their VA a bottle of insulin and allowed her to administer his meds. They gave her seven life sentences so she should be around there somewhere, maybe they made her a trustee, who knows?
Hatchet hacker dead in custody
Everything about this story is bizarre, even when you stick to the solid facts. West Virginia citizen Daniel Palmer, age 55, was charged for “brutally beating his sister,” to put it mildly. When she woke up from a coma two years later, she pointed to her head and said “brother.”
Police waited until Wanda Palmer was well enough to talk and confirmed she’s totally certain that her older brother, Daniel Palmer, was the one who tried to hack her to death. He used what was probably a hatchet. Nobody expected her to live long enough to make it to a hospital but she survived the past two years.
Daniel was unruly from the beginning and fought back when taken into custody. When police booked him into South Central Regional Jail in Charleston on July 15, he was “uncooperative while in custody and during booking procedures at the jail.”
By the time they dragged him in front of a judge, he was facing attempted murder and malicious wounding charges. Police didn’t have enough to charge him with the hatchet attack until Wanda woke up to confirm their sketchy evidence and firm suspicions.
According to officials with the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security, “on Wednesday he was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital after an evaluation by jail medical staff.” Running that backwards means that the hatchet hacker was discovered by someone who alerted medical staff to do that evaluation.
The injuries he sustained when he “slipped in the shower,” or whatever, were serious enough that jail staff couldn’t patch him up. The West Virginia taxpayers are grateful to one criminal for saving the expense of prosecuting, then feeding, clothing and housing another rabid animal the state is too squeamish to execute and be done with. He was pronounced dead on which means he was probably beaten about as harshly as his sister was.
Ruled out suicide
All that the WV branch of the DHS will say is that they “ruled out suicide as a cause of death.” He didn’t cause whatever substantial injuries he had to himself. It’s a pretty good bet that the guards didn’t do it but they might have allowed themselves to be conveniently distracted at just the right time.
A person who whacked their sister in the head with a hatchet isn’t generally given celebrity status in jail. They have a way of karmically balancing the books, since they’re bored and have nothing to lose anyway. What’s a few more years on a triple life sentence? What are they going to do, put me in jail?? Ha ha.
When police found Wanda Palmer in her trailer in Cottageville on June 10, 2020, she had been beaten into a bloody paste with a hatchet and appeared to be on the verge of passing any second. Miraculously, she survived.
Her survival wasn’t much of a life though, for the next two years she remained in a total coma. Then she woke up and started trying to speak. When asked why her brother would do such a horrible thing to her, she simply said, he was “mean.” Police would agree. They know him pretty well.
All along, he swore up and down that he didn’t do it. Police were never able to recover the hatchet or machete used in the brutal assault. Hatchets are everywhere in West Virginia and Palmer isn’t covered with MS-13 tats so it’s a good bet that we know which was used.
A neighbor says they saw Daniel at Wanda’s door at midnight the night she was assaulted but witnesses can be mistaken and Defense attorneys shred them routinely, even when the witness is totally accurate. Wanda may never fully recover from the brain damage but police are amazed she recovered enough to arrest her attacker and now she outlived him.
