With Donald Trump less than two months from taking office, the appointments are flying.
Trump just announced another appointment, and it will be the return of someone from Trump’s first administration.
Peter Navarro, who was sent to jail for defying a January 6 Select Committee subpoena, is returning.
He’s Back
Navarro was sentenced to four months behind bars for defying the subpoena.
This happened even though Navarro was trying to cooperate with the DOJ.
He explained, “I reached out to the Justice Department. I offered them a possible way forward.
“They responded with effectively the same kind of thing as you see in [former Soviet Union dictator Joseph] Stalin’s Russia or the Chinese Communist Party.”
During Trump’s first administration, Navarra was the director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, a similar role to what he will serve in the second administration.
On Wednesday, Trump announced the new appointment, stating, “I am pleased to announce that Peter Navarro, a man who was treated horribly by the Deep State, or whatever else you would like to call it, will serve as my Senior Counselor for Trade and Manufacturing.”
Trump continued, “During my First Term, few were more effective or tenacious than Peter in enforcing my two sacred rules, Buy American, Hire American.
“He helped me renegotiate unfair Trade Deals like NAFTA and the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS), and moved every one of my Tariff and Trade actions FAST.
“The Senior Counselor position leverages Peter’s broad range of White House experience, while harnessing his extensive Policy analytic and Media skills.”
I have no problem at all with Navarro and he clearly is loyal to Trump, which is exactly what Trump needs in this role if his tariff plan is going to work.
Welcome back, Mr. Navarro, and cut the meltdown and need for safe spaces on the left.
