With the new year just around the corner, many of you are out there looking to find a date.
Well, there is a hack that is going viral online to find that New Year’s Eve love.
Ironically, this is not a “new” hack, but something that dates back to ancient times.
The Grape Theory
The grape theory dates back to the 1800s, originating in Spain, really gaining steam in 1909.
The theory is that as the clock strikes 12, you eat one grape for every chime.
There are various theories on this, one of which was that growers at the time started the tradition to help sell extra grapes they had produced during the growing season.
This, of course, evolved over the years with people putting their own spin on it.
One of them was that eating the grapes in this manner would bring you prosperity and luck, including in your love life.
Izzy Dwyer posted the tradition on her social media accounts, and she claims it worked.
Dwyer stated, “I saw on TikTok that [eating the 12 grapes is] meant to bring you luck in your love life, and I did it with three friends
“One had a boyfriend and me and my other friend were single, and now we’re both in relationships now, too.”
I have to admit, I am not unfamiliar with this tradition, as I have some Spanish friends that used to do this very New Year’s Eve as the New Year was brought it, but I just never got it or understood it.
So, if you don’t have anyone to plant a kiss on as the ball drops on New Year’s Eve, grab 12 grapes instead and toss them down with every chime of the clock.
After all, what do you have to lose?
