In the weeks leading up to their October 7 assault on southern Israel, Hamas employed various tactics at the border fence in order to gauge how best to penetrate Israeli defenses. They brought down drones used by IDF divisional headquarters which weakened communications with surrounding bases and posts near the border fence.
Additionally, they blew a hole in the fence large enough for someone to pass through – though it was swiftly fixed by IDF personnel afterwards. Furthermore, they tried bringing down cameras used by surveillance soldiers at the fence and finally managed to do so before employing this technique widely during their attack.
Moreover, they timed themselves running towards but not reaching all way up to the barrier while also using tractors close it – fooling IDF into believing that these were meant for agricultural purposes only.
Despite repeated warnings from surveillance soldiers regarding suspicious activity close to or at border fences prior to October 7th assault, no action was taken against them as reported earlier thus allowing them free reign over Israeli defense systems. This made it easy for Hamas to gain access into enemy territories unchecked and unfettered resulting in mass destruction of property.
