Thought ISIS was finished? Apparently not everybody got the memo. And naturally a liberal Judge wants to go easy on these Islamist terrorists. Edward Schimenti aka ‘Abdul Wali’, 39, ironically of Zion, Illinois (you can’t make this up) was arrested, tried and received his 13 1/2 year sentence yesterday. Schimenti was convicted of “conspiracy to send materials overseas to help the Islamic State make bombs,” the Chicago Sun-Times and Western Journal reported.
The FBI nabbed the near forty wanna-be-insurgent with co-conspirator Joseph D. Jones aka ‘Yusuf Abdulhaqq’ based on their online activity. In one post Edward wrote “Islamic State will control your country, matter of fact, Islam will dominate the world!!” Not today Abdul and Yusuf . The 38 year-old Jones was sentenced to 12 years for his role in the 2017 conspiracy.
An Illinois local paper the Arlington Cardinal wrote, the FBI arranged for ‘Abdul’ and “Yusef’ to meet up with two undercover informants “Omar” and “Bilal” in 2015 who managed to spook them into leaving the meeting. They later went a more subtle route and had an informant begin working with Schimenti’s employer and the two became ‘friends’. The informant told Schimenti he had a brother with ISIS who he hoped to join in Syria.
“In 2017, Schimenti furnished cell phones to one of the cooperating individuals, believing the phones would be used to detonate explosive devices in ISIS attacks overseas.
On April 7, 2017, Schimenti drove with the cooperating individual to O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, with the understanding that the cooperating individual would be traveling to Syria to fight with ISIS. Schimenti allegedly told informant to “drench that land with they, they blood” before dropping the informant off at O’Hare.”
Newsweek reported that, “The defendants argued that they had been entrapped by the FBI, although neither the jury that convicted them nor the judge was convinced.
“Mr. Schimenti only acted when the government placed the opportunity before him and then consistently manipulated him over an extended period until he took the bait,” defense attorneys reportedly argued in a memo.”
A Light Sentence for Treason. Even from a Liberal
The prosecution in this case sought the maximum allowable sentence. According to Cornell Law School 18 U.S. Code § 2339B – Providing material support or resources to designated foreign terrorist organizations carries a maximum sentence of “no more than 20 years”, both men were convicted under this code, so why the light sentences?
U.S. District Judge Andrea R. Wood was nominated by President Obama in 2013 and that tells us most of what we need to know.
Evidence at the trial revealed that the two men advocated “throwing gay people off of the top of Willis Tower — 108 stories. Schimenti and Jones also discussed a plot to attack the U.S. sailors graduation center at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois north of Chicago.” according to the Arlington Cardinal.
Given the extreme nature of the threats these men posed, how could the judge and jury hand down such a lenient penalty? Schimenti told the FBI informant “I want to see blood flowing”. These two should be locked up between Timothy McVeigh and Ted Kaczynski in ADX Florence FOR-EV-ER.
