It’s Been SHUT DOWN, Trump Sigh of Relief

When Donald Trump appointed Matt Gaetz as his attorney general and Gaetz immediately resigned his seat, some red flags went up.

Gaetz did not have to resign his seat until after being vetted and approved, so there was clearly something else in play here.

Now it seems like it was so Gaetz could keep his House Ethics Committee report buried, and it looks like it will stay buried now.

Not Happening

Had Gaetz stayed in the running for AG, I would have pushed for the House Ethics Committee to turn that report over for them to view.

There is no need to publish the report, but if Gaetz is being vetted for AG, it is better we know the trouble now than have it surface later when it could hurt the administration.

Gaetz clearly did not want that report out, so he ended up withdrawing his name, but Democrats in the House were still trying to get that report released.

The motion went to a vote, and it wound up being blocked, and rightfully so.

With Gaetz out of the House and out of public service, the House committee no longer has jurisdiction, so the report should be buried.

Having said that, if Gaetz gets appointed to a non-Senate approved appointment, I very much think that report then needs to be publicized.

Dems, however, want to end Gaetz now, with Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL), who stating, “If this is a referendum on, are Republicans willing to stand up to sexual assault when committed by Republicans, I have a very low confidence that any Republicans will break on that vote.

“If this is a referendum on: do Republicans like Matt Gaetz, I have a very high degree of confidence. I don’t know how they’re thinking about this.”

That comment is a bit misleading.

The allegations made against Gaetz were already investigated by law enforcement, and no charges were ever filed.

I am sure that report is not flatting for Gaetz, but if the police never filed any charges, and Gaetz is now out of public service, that report is no longer relevant.
