A massive sentence was just handed down in a January 6 case.
David Nicholas Dempsey, who prosecutors tagged as one of the most violent offenders of the riot, has been sentenced to two decades in jail.
Dempsey’s sentence is only surpassed by that of the Proud Boys leader.
Never See the Light of Day
Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his role in the January 6 riots.
Oddly enough, he was not even present that day, but prosecutors made the case that he was the mastermind behind much of what took place that day.
Dempsey was given a sentence nearly as harsh for his actions against police officers that day.
Dempsey was accused of stomping on police officers as well as using weapons of opportunity to attack officers, such as crutches and broken furniture pieces.
During his sentencing hearing, Dempsey, in an effort to get some leniency, apologized for his actions that day, as well to the police officers he attacked, telling them, “You were performing your duties, and I responded with hostility and violence.”
Prosecutors wanted 21 years, while the defense asked for only six years and six months.
U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth sided with the prosecution, ordering Dempsey to prison for 20 years, stating, “Your conduct on Jan. 6 was exceptionally egregious. You did not get carried away in the moment.”
Dempsey’s attorney, Amy Collins, was devastated by the sentence, stating, “It makes him a statistic. It doesn’t consider the person he is, how much he has grown.”
Donald Trump has vowed to look at all of the J6 cases to decide if he will pardon them if he takes office, but I don’t see Dempsey getting any relief simply due to the fact he was physically assaulting police officers.
