Republicans got an unexpected win in court.
In Pennsylvania, the State Supreme Court actually upheld mail-in ballot laws.
The court ruled that ballots that are missing the proper date cannot be validated.
Fight Will Continue
During the pandemic, many states, including Pennsylvania, circumvented their state legislatures to install new election rules.
The Dems said the same thing in every state… this was all being done to keep people safe due to the pandemic.
The GOP has been trying to reverse these laws ever since.
In PA, many of the standard rules were relaxed during the pandemic, which including counting many mail-in ballots that should have probably been disqualified for having not been filled out properly.
People can argue about this all they want, but the rules were put in place by the state legislature, and they could be changed. The Democrats just decided to use the pen instead of actual legislation.
The rule in question is the date on the envelopes being properly filled out, with former PA Sec. of State Kathy Boockvar stating, “What’s most important is voters need to just understand that they need to put today’s date on the envelope.”
Gates McGavick, senior advisor to RNC Chairperson Michael Whatley, responded, “The idea that widely-supported [sic] election integrity safeguards somehow constitute ‘voter suppression’ is a far-left conspiracy theory.”
The ACLU, however, has vowed to continue to fight the ruling, so we can expect to see this at the Supreme Court sometime soon.
With Justice Alito overseeing requests in PA, however, there stands a good chance he will refuse the request and allow the lower court ruling to stand.
