Current President Joe Biden’s approval rating continues to drop, and its not just amongst the American public…it’s within his very own party as well. Recent polls reveal that his rating has plummeted by double digits in just the last month alone.
In a dramatic month where the House of Representatives ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker and then elected his replacement, two Democrats have announced their departure from the House. Maryland’s John Sarbanes and North Carolina’s Jeff Jackson will both leave Congress at the end of their terms in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

President Joe Biden’s job approval rating among Democrats has declined 11 percentage points to 75% according to a new Gallup poll. This drop has pushed his overall approval rating down four points to 37%, matching his personal low, while Republicans’ rating remains unchanged at 5%.
The news is not good for those within Biden’s party as two members are leaving the House just one month after a heated election battle for Speaker between two of its members.

John Sarbanes worked for several non-profits prior to being elected in 2007, but he is now drawn back to that type of work and plans on exploring “the numerous opportunities to serve that exist outside of elected office.” He is hopeful about America’s future since new Democratic leadership looks promising for regaining control come 2025.
But with 221 members currently under GOP control and another 2 open positions, this may be harder than expected despite Sarbanes’ optimism. Additionally, redistricting authorized by the Republican-controlled state legislature will certainly add another obstacle for Democrats looking to hold onto or gain power over more seats in Congress.
Many districts held by Democrats are now redrawn in favor of Republicans including North Carolina’s 14th district which encompasses most of Charlotte. No wonder why Jackson decided against running again – he doesn’t stand a chance.
