On Trump’s first day in office, he fired off a slew of executive orders to undo much of what Joe Biden did when he was in office.
Part of that was protections that Biden put in place for federal workers.
This will surely be challenged in court, but even so, it is a massive wake-up call to federal workers who believe they are untouchable.
Get Back to Work
When Biden was in office, he had extended many of the COVID protocols that remained in place throughout his administration.
This included allowing many federal workers who used to work in the office to remain at home, at least for part of their week.
The amount of money we are currently spending on leases for empty or partly empty offices is in the billions, so either get them back in the officers or terminate the leases.
Trump chose to send them back to work.
His order stated, “There have been numerous and well-documented cases of career Federal employees resisting and undermining the policies and directives of their executive leadership.
“Principles of good administration, therefore, necessitate action to restore accountability to the career civil service.”
This will be immediately challenged. Everett Kelley, national president of the American Federation of Government Employees, stated, “President Trump’s order is a blatant attempt to corrupt the federal government by eliminating employees’ due process rights so they can be fired for political reasons.
“This unprecedented assertion of executive power will create an army of sycophants beholden only to Donald Trump, not the Constitution or the American people.”
I have no problem with people working from home, but some positions perform far better in an office environment.
There is also the trust factor and I can tell you from personal experience, a lot of people that work from home are far less productive due to family, pets, and regular distractions they would never see at the office.
We are going to hear a lot of complaints about this order, but I completely support it, and it will be a great way for Trump to trim some waste from the government budget.
