Going back to the 2022 House election, Donald Trump and Republicans were stunned when former Governor Sarah Palin failed to win a House seat.
She was running against Mary Peltola for the seat vacated by the late Rep. Don Young (R-AK).
Palin blamed her loss on ranked choice, which had just been implemented, but the GOP just got some revenge.
Big Win
Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK) defeated Palin in the general election as well as the special election to take the seat.
Palin was not only running against Peltola, but she was also facing Republican Nick Begich in a split Republican ticket.
With ranked choice, a candidate is eliminated in every round until one candidate wins the majority.
In this case, all of Begich’s votes had their #2 count, which put Peltola over the top and gave her the seat.
This time, Donald Trump endorsed Lt. Gov. Nancy Dahlstrom for the seat, but Dahlstrom finished behind Begich in the open primary.
Rather than split the ticket again, Dahlstrom withdrew, throwing her support behind Begich, and it worked.
Also on the ballot, however, was a measure to repeal the ranked-choice voting.
As of this report, “yes” to repeal the method was ahead by nearly 900 votes, with about 9,000 ballots left to be counted.
The counting of the ballots should be concluded by November 20, at which time the race will officially be called on this matter.
Regardless, flipping this seat is pretty big for the GOP, getting back a seat that was forever red, turned blue for only two years.
It is just yet more proof that Americans are fed up with the Democrat agenda.
