As Europe continues to descend into complete authoritarianism, one country has announced the approval of new restrictions on business and movement, which will be in place until at least April 6.
Out of apparent concern about mutated strains of COVID, the Italian government, led by Prime Minister Mario Draghi, has announced the imminent imposition of another authoritarian lockdown.
Full lockdown measures will be imposed on any Italian region with more than 250 cases per 100,000 people.
A draft of the lockdown order was given to the news outlet Reuters, which reported:
“Under an order approved on [March 12] by Health Minister Roberto Speranza seven regions have been shifted into the toughest red zones, including Lombardy around Milan, and Lazio around Rome.
Three other regions were already red, meaning half the country’s regions and most of its population will be under the most severe restrictions from [March 15].
In these areas schools and non-essential shops will be closed and Italians will only be allowed to leave their homes for work, health or emergency reasons.”
“I hope that this will be the last sacrifice asked of our citizens,” said Lombardy President Attilio Fontana. Unfortunately, he is likely wrong, as governments who are given this much power over their citizens are unlikely to give the power back after the crisis is over.
According to the order, Italians will only be allowed to leave their homes for work, health reasons, or emergency reasons. The measure will also severely limit travel between towns, and will order the closure of restaurants and bars.
The Bottom Line
It’s not just American Democrats that are imposing authoritarian lockdowns on their people. All around the world, especially in Europe, these orders are being implemented and economies are being destroyed. The only difference is that the United States has a unique Constitution that gives the people the right to protest, speak freely, and petition their government for an end to these measures. No other country guarantees that kind of freedom to their people as a natural right. The American people need to start using those rights and pushing back on left-wing authoritarians before we become like Italy, and the rest of Europe.
