A decision recently came down from the Supreme Court that shocked people on both sides of the aisle.

The case was Virginia filing an emergency appeal of a lower court decision to block the state from cleaning up its voter rolls.

Most expected the Supreme Court to punt on the case, but it not only took the case, it reversed the decision and will allow Virginia to remove voters who could not or did not confirm they are citizens of the United States.

We Win!

When Democrats passed the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), it seemed like they were trying to make the election more susceptible to fraud rather than protecting it.

One of the clauses of the legislation blocked states from any voter roll purges within 90 days of the election.

When Virginia cleaned up its voter rolls, the filing was made in the first week just past the deadline, so the Biden administration tried to block the purge.

The names being removed were all people who had not proven they were citizens, but a measure was in place allowing them to cast a provisional ballot on election day if they could prove they were citizens.

To most people, that would seem more than reasonable, but Dems prefer to call that voter oppression… but the Supreme Court agreed that the voter rolls could be cleaned up, even inside that 90-day window.

Governor Glenn Youngkin took a victory lap after the decision came down.

He stated, “Clean voter rolls are one important part of a comprehensive approach we are taking to ensure the fairness of our elections.

“Virginians also know that we have paper ballots, counting machines not connected to the internet, a strong chain of custody process, signature verification, monitored and secured drop boxes, and a ‘triple check’ vote counting process to tabulate results.”

Virginia’s Attorney General’s office added, “States are free to systematically remove noncitizens, as well as minors and fictitious persons, at any time, including within 90 days of an election, without running afoul of the NVRA.”

I admit that I was shocked the Supreme Court took the case, but I am very glad it did.

Now we should expect to see more filings before election day because there were numerous red states that ran into a similar challenge when they were auditing their voting rolls.
