Recently, a man from Macon, Georgia was arrested after he made a death threat against Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. The suspect, Sean Patrick Cirillo, will be appearing in federal court on December 13.
This disturbing incident serves as an example of the threats and violence that elected officials face on a daily basis. Despite these threats, however, Rep. Greene remains committed to her job and protecting the rights of all Americans.
According to media reports, Cirillo allegedly called Rep. Greene’s office multiple times with threatening messages such as “I’m going to murder her; I’m going to shoot her in the (expletive) head and kill her, OK” and “You don’t think you’re going to get payback? You’re going to die.” He also reportedly threatened staff members at Rep. Green’s office in Dalton, Georgia with statements like “I’ll kill you too if you want”.
These calls were made over the course of two days and included references about shooting the congresswoman with a sniper rifle as well as threats against family members of those who work for her office. In response to these events, Rep. Green released a statement thanking law enforcement for their swift action in apprehending Cirillo while emphasizing how wrong it is for anyone to make such violent threats against public figures or their families: “Threats of violence must be taken seriously…It doesn’t matter your political affiliation, no one should threaten your life for doing the job you were sent by the people to do.”
She goes on to say that she receives death threats “on an almost daily basis” and that it “should never be tolerated.”
Rep. Greene added that she has had to close her district office in Dalton.https://t.co/JMHmKuYiEq

Rep Green isn’t alone in having been forced to close an office due to safety concerns related to death threats either; fellow Republican representative Rich McCormick closed his Cumming office after receiving similar threatening messages towards him and his staff members there.
This ongoing issue points out how serious we should take potential attacks against our nation’s leaders.
