The Huffington Post’s Joel Davis who also carries the title Youth Ambassador for the United States on Sexual Violence in Conflict to the United Nations and the co-founding Executive Director of “Youth to End Sexual Violence” was convicted and sentenced to 13 years in prison for child sex crimes on June 22nd. Nope, you really can’t make that up. The ‘Youth Ambassador for the United States on Sexual Violence in Conflict’ was raping children and distributing child porn.
Davis, pleaded guilty on January 16th, 2020 on charges of enticing a child to engage in illegal sexual activity, possession of child pornography, and distribution and receipt of child pornography and was sentenced to 156 months in prison to be served concurrently with five years of supervised release after.
It’s Not Nearly Enough For What He Did To Those Children
James Anthony of The Post Millennial reported that
“According to the Huffington Post’s own website, Davis “works in close partnership with the [US] government, the United Nations and various civil society and youth-led organizations to galvanize international support for the engagement of youth on the topic of sexual and gender based violence in conflict.”
The U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York laid out Davis’ crimes in sickening detail,
“In or about June 2018, DAVIS used a dating application on his iPhone to entice a fifteen-year-old boy (the “Victim”) to engage in sexual activity with him.
On June 13, 2018, DAVIS invited the Victim to his apartment building in Manhattan and engaged in sexual activity with the Victim, despite knowing that the Victim was a minor. DAVIS used his smartphone to film a portion of that conduct and sent the video to at least two others, including an undercover FBI agent.
In addition, between at least in or about May 2018 and June 2018, DAVIS possessed more than 3,700 images and more than 330 videos of child pornography, including numerous images of prepubescent minors who had not attained 12 years of age, and received and distributed material containing child pornography using a cellphone. DAVIS was arrested on June 26, 2018.”
Many would agree that for purveyors of child pornography and those who sexually abuse children, there is no such thing as a sentence too harsh. In fact many on Twitter and other threads lament that capital punishment isn’t on the table, many more point to the alarming frequency that men and women who have made it their ‘life’s work’ to help sexually abused children seem to become offenders. The vetting process for people in this line of work, whether non-profit or government-employed is demonstrably insufficient to the point of criminal negligence.
That such a person was representing the United State on the World Stage specifically to combat Sexual Violence is beyond disturbing, it is national disgrace.
