A whole department full of Deep State spooks just got busted illegally tracking journalists reporting on Black Lives Matter riots. More specifically, for targeting journalists who published leaked government documents. One high ranking intelligence official is taking the fall for his entire department, which makes Adam Schiff alarmingly happy.

In charge of the spooks

Brian Murphy was one of the officials in charge of watching over the government spooks, as acting under secretary for the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, at the Department of Homeland Security. Murphy cleaned out his desk pending reassignment after acting Homeland Secretary Chad Wolf summoned the disgraced administrator to his office Friday night.

It didn’t take long for liberal rats to start speed dialing reporters on their secret burner phones to complain that Murphy’s being sent to bureaucratic Siberia. He’s in trouble for letting spooks in his office gather “intelligence reports on two U.S. journalists.” Worse, the names of the reporters were revealed to the press.

The liberal Washington Post notes “It’s unclear what Murphy’s next role will be.” Speculation is rampant that he’ll have a promising future sorting through Freedom of Information Act records requests. At least it will keep him and his spooks away from honest journalists. The department’s intelligence office “had produced Open Source Intelligence Reports that identified reporters and members of the media who had obtained and released official government documents and internal DHS communications.” Those documents are probably what got Schiff into the middle of it.

Murphy didn’t have a clue

Murphy was picked as the scape goat, one insider leaked to CNN, just because he’s the man in charge, even though he didn’t have a clue what the spooks were up to. “The collection and dissemination of information on journalists was carried out by lower level officials acting on broad guidance,” claims the rat. “Murphy was not fully aware until after the fact.” For some reason, Adam Schiff decided that Murphy is the one to throw under the bus. Schiff’s House Intelligence Committee has been “conducting rigorous oversight” of the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis for the last two weeks, including actions by Murphy,” he confirmed.

Chad Wolf went out of his way to make it crystal clear he had nothing to do with what the spooks got up to on their own and he doesn’t back them up for what they did. Wolf has been acting Secretary of Homeland Security since November. “In no way does the Acting Secretary condone this practice, and he has immediately ordered an inquiry into the matter,” a DHS spokesman relates. Schiff was more specific. “In light of recent public reports, we are concerned that Murphy may have provided incomplete and potentially misleading information to Committee staff during our recent oversight engagement, We will be expanding our oversight even further in the coming days.” You can bet Murphy said something against Schiff’s Deep State interests.

Wolf put out an internal memo on Friday, ordering the spooks in the intelligence branch to “cease collecting information involving journalists,” along with demanding a “review of the incident.” His department “will no longer identify US members of the media in our intelligence products,” and he’s “ordering an immediate review of the circumstances surrounding the collection and dissemination of intelligence on US members of the press.” The Inspector General will also be doing a separate investigation.
