It’s hard to pin January 6, 2021’s alleged “insurrection” on the Proud Boys when there were so many undercover FBI agents and informants running around, causing all the major chaos behind the scenes. The amazing thing is that several of the rats are actually going to testify on behalf of the defense.

FBI instigators take the stand

According to Vice, several rats, hand trained by the FBI, are “being called as witnesses in the Proud Boys’ high-profile seditious conspiracy trial.” They make a point of adding, “by the defense.

Long before the Q-anon inspired barbarian invasion, the Federal Bureau of Instigation had “well-placed informants in the Proud Boys.” Defense attorneys think what they have to say will free their clients. They’ll do it by proving any “plot” to storm the Capitol was a figment of Christopher Wray’s twisted imagination.

Opening arguments got underway on Thursday, January 12 against “Proud Boy ‘s ex-‘chairman’ Enrique Tarrio, top organizers Joseph Biggs, Zach Rehl, and Ethan Nordean, and member Dominic Pezzola.

Lawyers convinced the court that “those informants were privy to Proud Boys’ chats and even marched alongside them to the Capitol” on the fateful day. All under orders from the FBI. Now, they need to convince the jury.

All five patriotic defendants allegedly conspired secretly in advance to “storm the Capitol, with the ultimate goal of disrupting and even preventing the peaceful transition of power.” If they jury doesn’t like their lawyers, they could get up to 20 years behind bars. There are lots of lawyers. To go up against the FBI takes a whole team of attorneys for each defendant.

An array of personalities and characters who are employing a grab bag of strategies and arguments they hope will exonerate their clients.” Everyone watching knows “the biggest asset to the defense’s case, by far, could be the testimony of those government informants.

Herd mentality, not organized

One of the things jurors will be fascinated by, according to attorney Nick Smith, representing Nordean, is a “screenshot of messages from one of the informants.

The rat told his handlers at the FBI “PBs did not do it or inspire. Crowds did, herd mentality. Not organized.” Prosecutors will be picking holes in the stories. They’ll want to know “just how much information these informants were privy to before the riot.

All the public really knows, so far, is that the FBI rats had been lurking “in a Proud Boy Telegram channel.” It’s not clear if that was the “private channel that was created by Tarrio on December 29, 2020, for a special chapter called ‘Ministry of Self Defense

Until they get called to the stand, we won’t know how many informants will be called, or how many infiltrated the group.

During opening arguments, Smith orated, “you’ll hear them testify that the march to the Capitol was ‘just for the camera.” There may have been a telegram channel but there wasn’t a “plan.” That’s the important part. The barbarian invasion may have been plotted by the FBI but Smith isn’t going to try and prove it.

The only thing he needs to prove is that his clients didn’t do much of anything except wave some flags around. “At no point in this case will you see Nordean produce evidence that anyone working in the government instigated January 6.” That doesn’t mean they didn’t.
