Two people have been killed and three were injured after a gas explosion while maintenance was being conducted on a pipeline in Collin County, Texas.
According to local sheriffs, a gas explosion occurred as subcontractors for Atmos Energy were conducting maintenance on a pipeline in Farmersville, Texas, around 35 miles northeast of downtown Dallas.
The accident happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 28.
Officials have deemed the scene safe, but are still asking that people avoid the area.
Atmos Energy released a statement about the incident, noting that its technicians have been working with first responders.
“Our prayers are with those who were affected by the events in Farmersville, Texas today. Out of respect for their privacy, we are not releasing any names or additional details at this stage,” the statement read.
The sheriff’s office has requested help from the FBI, as the federal agency has expertise in processing scenes after an explosion.
