Donald Trump is upset and he has every right to be.
He has been fighting to keep his taxes away from the House Ways and Means Committee virtually since taking office.
Last week, it was ruled that the committee could see his tax returns.
What Happened to Privacy Rights
The committee claimed that it wanted his tax returns for oversight, but that was clearly not the case.
The real purpose was to publish them so they could try to get public sentiment against him.
When the committee could not find anything to prosecute Trump, they just decided to release his tax returns so people could see he has paid very little in taxes over the last few years.
The problem, however, is that Trump did nothing wrong by working off a big loss from a prior year.
This is a tax break available to anyone that invests or owns businesses, and I guarantee you other members of Congress have taken advantage of this very rule.
The only issue they really found was that the IRS did not perform its mandatory audit of the president’s tax returns.
The report stated, “The Committee’s investigation revealed only one mandatory audit was started under the prior Administration and the program was otherwise dormant, at best.
“The mandatory audit of the former President was conducted, mostly, by one revenue agent.
“The individual tax return of the former President included the activities of hundreds of related and pass-through entities, numerous schedules, foreign tax credits, and millions of dollars in NOL carryforwards.
“The revenue agent noted that the lack of resources was the reason for not pursuing certain issues on the former President’s returns.”
The wording makes it sound horrible, but all those things that Trump did are perfectly legal as long as the numbers are accurate.
It is hard to imagine Trump not taking legal action over this.
At the very least, it has to be considered an invasion of privacy.
