It being election time, the big promises are starting to fly as we head down the final stretch.
To that point, Donald Trump may have just written a check he will not be able to cash.
During a recent rally, Trump stated if elected, he will end taxes on overtime pay, and the crowd went nuts, but can he deliver on that promise?
OT Taxes
In reality, this will be a very hard promise for Trump to deliver, which is why it is so baffling he would even make such a promise.
Removing taxes from overtime would require an act of Congress, and right now, the GOP does not have the numbers to pass legislation such as this.
They would have to take the Senate back, while also holding the House, not to mention getting enough Democrats on board with the policy to get it to Trump’s desk.
Even so, Trump told his supporters, “The people who work overtime are among the hardest working citizens in our country — When you pass 40 hours a week, your overtime hours will be tax free.”
The Harris campaign immediately responded, calling Trump a liar and making empty promises, but Harris is guilty of the same thing.
Like Trump, Harris has promised to end taxes on service industry tips, but that would require congressional legislation.
These are all empty promises until one party can dominate the House and Senate, and I just don’t see that happening in this election.
