The campaign of North Carolina GOP gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson stands to really hurt Republicans.
His is now in the middle of a massive scandal, but he is refusing to leave the race.
It was assumed that Trump would cut ties with Robinson, who was already floundering in the polls, but Trump is not backing off, at least not yet.
I Don’t Know
Robinson has always been a bad endorsement by Trump, but now the situation is getting much worse.
Robinson was trailing his Democrat opponent by 10 points before the scandal hit.
Then, about a week ago, CNN released a hit piece on Robinson that exposed salacious messages on a porn site message board as well as Robinson allegedly declaring himself a “black Nazi.”
He also allegedly expressed the desire for slavery to return because he would own some.
Since then, he has tanked even more, down 17 points in the latest survey.
Trump will take heat if Robinson loses, but this was his chance to cut ties and run. Trump, however, said he was holding firm because he was not aware of the entire situation just yet.
When asked about pulling his endorsement for Robinson, Trump stated, “I don’t know the situation.”
The GOP expected to win the governor’s election and the state, and now both are at risk.
The governor’s election is in the wind, especially if Robinson stays in the race, but Trump still has a shot at taking the state in the general election.
I believe Trump should cut ties and it could give him the boost he needs to secure the state over Harris.
Currently, the latest CNN poll had them even at 48% each.
