On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Donald Trump made a rather interesting announcement that did not sit very well with Elon Musk.
Trump announced the new $500 billion Stargate project.
The project will get started with a $100 billion investment, and it is expected to provide about 100,000 jobs and make the United States a major player in the AI world.

During the press conference to announce Stargate, Trump was also asked about entertaining the idea of Elon Musk purchasing TikTok.
Trump stated, “I would be, yeah. I met with owners of TikTok, the big owners, it’s worthless if it doesn’t get a permit.
“It’s not like you can take the US. The whole thing is worthless. With a permit it’s worth like a trillion dollars.
“So, what I’m thinking saying to somebody is buy it and give half to the United States of America and we’ll give you the permit and they’ll have a great partner, the United States.”
Trump then stated that his preference would be for Larry Ellison, the CEO of Oracle, to buy the app, who happened to be on hand for the Stargate announcement.
Ellison, along with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, are the three initial investors in Stargate.
On the new venture, Altman stated, “I think this will be the most important project of this era. We wouldn’t be able to do this without you, Mr. President.”
It seemed to get under Musk’s skin that he is not part of this, as Musk and Altman are in a feud right now over AI.
So, it was not exactly a shock to see Musk take a shot at the project, stating, “They don’t actually have the money. SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority.”
When Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella pushed back on the comments by Musk, stating, “I’m good for my $80 billion,” to which Musk replied, “Satya definitely has the money.”
I bring up the Musk conflict because I am just waiting for the fallout to occur between Musk and Trump.
These are two huge personalities, both demanding attention all the time, so I am just wondering how long it becomes before they become two rams in a small room.
