If a watchdog is correct, Health and Human Services Secretary Becerra lied under oath.
Protect the Public’s Trust has been trying to get to the bottom of Becerra’s congressional testimony for months to prove it.
Its latest move was to file a lawsuit against the Department of Health and Human Services.
He Lied
In April Becerra testified that it was misinformation that the administration was offering payments to doctors who created an “anti-racism” plan that includes a “clinic-wide review” of doctor ideology.
Becerra challenged Rep. Gary Palmer (R-AL) to find such proof of a policy.
PPT took up that challenge, filing an FOIA request in April.
Not surprisingly, the HHS has refused to comply with the request.
It makes it awfully tough to prove an allegation when you cannot get your hands on the documentation.
PPT Director Michael Chamberlain stated, “The American public needs to be assured they can trust the statements of those at the highest levels of power who create, implement, and oversee the policies that affect their lives and how the funds they remit as taxes are spent.”
When the initial request was made, all PPT wanted was documents that specifically had the phrases “anti-racism” or “antiracism” in them connected to Becerra.
The agency declined the initial request, telling them to narrow their request.
Chamberlain continued, “It’s little wonder they didn’t provide any suggestions for doing so.
“The American public’s trust in the agency Secretary Becerra leads has plummeted during the pandemic and a good first step in restoring that trust is to comply with our request so they can determine whether he delivered truthful testimony to their elected representatives.”
Now that it is in the courts, HHS will eventually be ordered to turn over the documentation, and my guess is that Becerra will get exposed for lying under oath.
