His Imperial Wisdom Joe Biden is so desperate for some positive press that he’s ready to swap Russia their arms dealer serving 25 years, for two they are holding. A lesbian basketball player caught with cannabis facing 10 years and an American accused of spying, who’s been stuck in a Russian cage since 2018. Staffers with CNN on speed dial leaked that the plan to trade Bout for Whelan and Griner received Joe Biden’s backing, “after being under discussion since earlier this year.”
Prisoner swap with Russia
Desperate for anything that will make him look good on television, Joe Biden has offered to swap convicted arms trafficker Viktor Bout to Russia in exchange for Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan.
Both of their wives will be really grateful to Joe if he can pull it off. Maybe even grateful enough to vote for him. Merrick Garland isn’t happy with the idea. In general the Department of Justice frowns on prisoner trades.
One of the “senior administration officials” relates they “communicated a substantial offer that we believe could be successful based on a history of conversations with the Russians.”
Actually, they started asking in June, now they’re begging. The official wouldn’t give details but thinks Russia will go for it. They have a few ways to sweeten the pot a little to make it a “substantial offer.”
The ball, as the saying goes, is in their court. So are the basketball player and the alleged spy, which gives Russia the advantage. They’re making Joe sweat for a while.
The leaker told CNN that “it was in Russia’s court to be responsive to it, yet at the same time that does not leave us passive, as we continue to communicate the offer at very senior levels.” Continuing to harp on it like a 4-year-old is generally considered “begging” but they’re desperate.
Two to tango
Joe Biden caving in to Russia against the wishes of the DOJ is only half the battle. We don’t have any control over what happens inside the Kremlin. “It takes two to tango. We start all negotiations to bring home Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained with a bad actor on the other side.”
“We start all of these with somebody who has taken a human being American and treated them as a bargaining chip,” the secret source dripped out. “So in some ways, it’s not surprising, even if it’s disheartening, when those same actors don’t necessarily respond directly to our offers, don’t engage constructively in negotiations.”
The wives of both Whelan and Griner have been incessantly hammering Joe to get them out of there any way he can. Griner already pleaded guilty but her trial drags on. She “accidentally” brought cannabis into Russia and is looking at 10 years in the gulag.
Authorities on the soviet side are insisting that her trial is completed and the basketball star sentenced before they can agree to any prisoner swap. The length of the sentence could add some value they can squeeze more concessions out of Joe with.
For months, the honchos have been discussing the possibility of listing Viktor Bout as a bargaining chip but the Justice Department said he was too dangerous to allow returning to Russia.
Joe’s handlers sent some goons around to see Merrick Garland and he’s suddenly with the program. If they don’t start showing the public they have a clue, the whole Democrat party could get voted out of office in November.
