Kamala Harris was just snubbed by yet another endorsement that is usually automatic for the Democrat Party.
The Los Angeles Times announced that it would be sitting out this election.
After a long hiatus, the publication had backed Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden in their respective elections.
Taking a Break
Prior to Barack Obama, the Los Angeles Times had not endorsed a presidential candidate since Richard Nixon.
The publication had backed Nixon throughout his career but after Watergate, it decided to pull back from endorsing candidates.
That changed in 2008, and it has endorsed Democrats ever since, but the paper changed ownership in 2018.
While the editors wanted to endorse Harris, ownership, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shion, told them to stay out of the election (one editor has since quit).
Semafor journalist Max Tani reported, “[A]ccording to two people familiar with the situation, executive editor Terry Tang told editorial board staff earlier this month that the paper would not be endorsing a candidate in the presidential election this cycle, a decision that came from the paper’s owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a doctor who made his fortune in the healthcare industry.
“The paper did not explain its decision, though it noted at the bottom of its online endorsement page that ‘the editorial board endorses selectively, choosing the most consequential races in which to make recommendations.’”
Regardless of the reason, this is a major blow for Harris, who was surely counting on the backing of the paper for her election.
In addition to being snubbed by the Times, Harris has also failed to win the endorsement of the Fireman’s union and the Teamsters.
As a matter of fact, Tim Walz aggravated that situation by saying union leadership did not have the courage to back Harris while also calling its members uneducated.
Teamster’s leadership was livid, immediately pushing back (the Teamsters held two different surveys, and the membership actually wanted Donald Trump).
At this point, it would appear that the Harris campaign is imploding, but the sheer hatred for Donald Trump in this country continues to keep an election close that should be a blowout win for the Republican Party.
