Donald Trump Pardon Situation

With Trump only two months away from taking office again, J6 defendants are hoping that Trump comes through with the pardons that he promised on the campaign trail.

One of those individuals who will be looking for a pardon is Joe Biggs, a member of the Proud Boys.

This is a really complicated situation, and Trump needs to be very careful about this.

    Be Careful

The 14th Amendment disqualifies anyone from running or holding office who has participated in an insurrection or a derivative of that, as well as anyone offering aid and comfort to an insurrectionist.

Most of the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers were convicted on this charge.

Biggs was sentenced to 17 years, and three years of supervised release once his jail sentence has been served.

One of the charges he was convicted of was sedition, so I don’t see Trump pardoning him.

Biggs’ attorney, Norm Pattis, is still making his case, however.

In his motion, Pattis wrote, “Congratulations on your re-election to the Presidency. You are now in a position to close a painful chapter in American history involving the prosecution and imprisonment of protesters at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“On behalf of Joseph Biggs, I am urging you to do so by granting Mr. Biggs’ request for a complete pardon for his actions on that day.”

He continued, “These are divisive times.

“The divisions were acute in 2020, when millions believed the election was stolen and turned out to make sure electoral integrity was preserved. Suspicions and bitterness about the election lingers to this day.

“A pardon of Mr. Biggs will help close that wound and inspires confidence in the future.”

Again, Trump said that he will look at these cases, and the people he believes were wrongly jailed are going to be pardoned or have their sentences commuted.

That is already going to stir things up, but if he pardons someone convicted of sedition, well, that will likely be the end of his presidency and crush any hopes we have in 2026 and 2028.
