Georgia is a state that was owned by Republicans in presidential elections until Trump lost the state in 2020.
Since 1976, Democrats have only carried the state four times, with Republicans winning Georgia in every election from 1996 through 2016.
That state is now up for grabs again, and local election officials have changed the rules to try to ensure a more accurate ballot count, but Dems are going to fight it.
Too Cumbersome
In addition to machine counting, state election officials introduced a new rule that would also require hand review and counting.
The numbers would be compared to make sure the counts are accurate.
However, both the State Attorney General and Secretary of State, both Republicans, have expressed concerns about the extra procedure.
In addition, Democrats have now filed suit to block the additional hand counting of the ballots, arguing that the new rule “I think we should stick to the issues. The issues are, Donald Trump fixed it once. They broke it. He’s going to fix it again. Those are the issues.”
Quentin Fulks, Harris-Walz campaign principal deputy campaign manager, is putting this on Trump.
He stated, “As Donald Trump invents facts to try to sow doubt in our elections, his MAGA allies in Georgia passed a new rule just weeks before Election Day that will obstruct the process of counting votes so they can complain when voters reject Trump at the polls.
“We agree with Georgia’s Republican Attorney General and Secretary of State: This rule is unproductive and unlawful, and we are fighting it.
“Democrats are stepping in to ensure that Georgia voters can cast their ballots knowing that they will be counted in a free and fair election.”
It does not help their case that the Secretary of State and Attorney General do not want to see this rule in place, but I say if it guarantees an accurate count, I am all for it.
This election is going to be a nail-biter, and some of these battleground states could come down to a few thousand or even a few hundred votes.
We absolutely need to make sure these counts are clean.
