Donald Trump would appear to have a new admirer.
It is being reported that Meta has donated $1 million to Donald Trump’s inauguration fund.
This tells me that Zuckerberg is making a play to get into Trump’s inner circle.
Big Bucks
Donald Trump has two things that get his attention: money and compliments.
Well, Mark Zuckerberg is hoping the former helps him get on the inside of Trump’s inner circle, which now includes Elon Musk.
Zuckerberg has already expressed interest in helping Trump craft a Big Tech policy, so I am sure that donation was to let Trump know he is serious.
The donation was shocking on several fronts when you consider Zuckerberg’s past donations and clear liberal ideology.
After a very controversial 2020, Zuckerberg did not endorse anyone in this election, and he tried to keep his platforms out of the headlines in terms of censorship policies.
Zuckerberg also reportedly traveled to Florida to meet Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago during the Thanksgiving holiday.
After that meeting took place, Meta stated, “It’s an important time for the future of American Innovation. Mark was grateful for the invitation to join President Trump for dinner and the opportunity to meet with members of his team about the incoming Administration.”
This could also be a case of billionaire jealousy, with Zuckerberg not liking the fact that one of the few men atop him on the list of richest people in the world is now in Trump’s inner circle and has a Bat Phone to Trump.
Trump and his surrogates have made it pretty clear that with the GOP now in charge of Congress and the White House, there are going to be some big changes for Big Tech and how it operates.
There are also plenty of Democrats that want to see changes, so this is likely to be very strong, bipartisan legislation that will get Big Tech back in line.
If Zuckerberg can get a say in the policies, he can try to protect Instagram and Facebook as much as possible.
This is definitely something we need to keep an eye on as we move forward.
