Paul Pelosi is recovering in a San Francisco hospital after being violently attacked in the couple’s home. It happened early Friday Morning. Initial reports relate that the husband of the Democrat House Speaker was confronted by a hammer wielding maniac demanding at the top of his voice to know “where is Nancy, where is Nancy?”
Pelosi expect to make full recovery
The 82-year-old husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is expected to make a full recovery, her office announced in a statement. He’s been hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
This is still a developing story and sources have only limited information regarding the incident, so far.
According to a statement from the U.S. Capitol Police, they’re “assisting the FBI and the San Francisco Police ‘with a joint investigation‘ into the break-in at the Pelosi residence in California.” They note local law enforcement responded and “special agents with the USCP’s California Field Office ‘quickly arrived on scene.’”

Also, a team of investigators from the Department’s Threat Assessment Section “was simultaneously dispatched from the East Coast to assist the FBI and the San Francisco Police with a joint investigation.”
According to Pelosi spokesperson Drew Hammill, “the assailant is in custody and a motive is being investigated. The speaker was in Washington at the time of the attack.”
They’re really happy that things weren’t a whole lot worse. They’ll probably be hiring some private security though. Obviously the best defense in San Francisco is an armed and vigilant one.
The security follows Nancy
While Paul Pelosi has recently been featured unfavorably in news headlines from a DUI related car crash, the attacker wasn’t after him. If Nancy had been home, her security team would have prevented the attack. From what CNN has been able to learn, “the assailant entered the Pelosi residence through the back of the house.”
One of their two informed sources noted “there would not have been a security detail at the residence.” When she hasn’t been home, the house apparently was a wide open target. That will be soon corrected.
“The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time,” Hammill added.

There should be security video for law enforcement to review but they already have the suspect in custody. Officials aren’t saying anything at all about who he is or what his grudge against Pelosi is.
Everyone in Washington on both sides of the aisle from Joe Biden on down have been flooding the twittersphere with support after the “horrible attack.” While conservatives have made law enforcement a key issue an San Francisco is famous for it’s liberal lack of it, this is not a partisan issue.
As GOP Leader Mitch McConnell expressed on behalf of all conservatives in a tweet on Friday, he is “horrified and disgusted” by the reports that Pelosi was assaulted in his home. Nobody wishes something like that on anyone. We can battle with words all we want but leave weapons out of it. Next session, we’ll see if Nancy sponsors a hammer control measure, though. After all, hammers kill more people than guns every year. There needs to be a licensing scheme to keep them out of the hands of homicidal maniacs. Those, and of course, cars.
