The House Freedom Caucus is about to have some turnover again.
Chairman Bob Good (R-VA) has decided to resign now rather than finish out his term.
Good, if you may recall, lost his primary race after a needless feud with Donald Trump.
Kiss the Ring
Good is out because he dared to endorse Governor Ron DeSantis over Donald Trump in the primary.
Trump was livid and even though Good had supported Trump to that point, as well as after DeSantis dropped out, Trump wanted him removed from office.
After DeSantis dropped out and Good endorsed Trump, Trump stated, “He turned his back on our incredible Movement, and was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently, when he gave me a warm and ‘loving’ Endorsement — But really, it was too late! The damage had been done.”
With Good out, it now leaves a hole in leadership.
There are already several names in the hat, most notably Reps. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) and Scott Perry (R-PA).
My guess here is that the caucus will wait to see how this election pans out rather than give someone the chair for only two months.
This way, they can wait and see if Trump wins the election or not and move forward accordingly.
If Trump wins, he will likely be the kingmaker for the chair. But if he loses this election, I think we are going to start to see the party try to purge Trump’s people and do a massive reset for the 2026 and 2028 elections.
I just don’t see how they can continue forward pushing Trump and MAGA candidates if the party continues to get crushed in these elections.
That is why I continue to say how important the 2024 election is, possibly for the survival of the conservative movement, let alone the MAGA movement.
You can only make changes if you win elections, and since 2016, the GOP has been getting its butt handed to it.
So in my opinion, this election is for all the marbles in terms of who the party moves forward.
