How can a political campaign that raised roughly $1.6 billion in three months have money problems?
Well, that would be because Harris overspent on events and appears to have paid some big fees to her friends for appearances and endorsements.
At the top of that list is a town hall that Harris held with Oprah Winfrey, where it is now being reported that the total is more than double what was initially reported.
Dishing It Out
When reports first surfaced about the town hall event with Oprah, the event had a $1 million price tag.
Now, however, it is being reported that the Harris campaign put out $2.5 million for the event.
This led to Oprah making a public statement that she never received any appearance fee or payment directly from the Harris campaign.
That, my friends, is walking a fine line in terms of the truth.
You see, Harpo Productions, the production company owned by Oprah Winfrey, ran the event, so the payment went to Harpo.
Eventually, even though Oprah did not “receive” a fee, the profits from the event will wind up in her bank account.
Even so, Oprah denied directly benefiting from the payment, posting on social media, “I was not paid a dime. For the live-streaming event in September, my production company Harpo was asked to bring in set design, lights, cameras, crew, producers and every other item necessary (including the benches and the chairs we sat on) to put on a live production.
“I did not take any personal fee. However, the people who worked on that production needed to be paid. And were. End of story.”
Okay, so in the interest of transparency, show us the P&L for the event showing that Harpo did not profit from the town hall… I think we all know that will never happen.
If I were a Democrat donor, I would be livid at how Harris lined the pockets of her friends, such as Areva Martin and Roland Martin, who collectively received more than $500,000 from the campaign.
Or how about Harris blowing nearly $1 million in ads in Las Vegas on The Sphere?
That is how Harris blew through $1.6 billion and now has a campaign that is about $20 million in the red, which is why she is continuing to send out fundraising emails.
This woman could not run a campaign and she wanted the keys to the country and our tax dollars… no thanks.
