Ever since Kevin McCarthy won the in-party election for Speaker of the House, there has been infighting in the GOP.
Only, it is not the scrap that we expected.
Now, there are members of the Freedom Caucus going at it with each other.
MTG v. Gaetz
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Rep. Matthew Gaetz (R-FL) have been buddies since MTG was elected.
They are both aligned with Trump and both members of the Freedom Caucus.
Only now, MTG is telling Gaetz to stand down over his objections to Rep. McCarthy (R-CA) being named Speaker of the House.
She believes any resistance could put the GOP agenda several months back.
Gaetz is not backing down, however, stating, “I’m saying we could see the cherry blossoms bloom and not have a speaker.
“I hope it doesn’t come to that.”
MTG blasted him…
The Dems want the corrupt DOJ to prosecute Trump, the special counsel is weaponized, the FBI colluded w/ Twitter to silence Americans & Hunter’s laptop, the border is over run, and McCarthy is ready to take on these issues.
The country won’t wait for the cherry blossoms to bloom. https://t.co/VhmCIbUE25— Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸 (@RepMTG) December 19, 2022
Now it is Rep. Boebert (R-CO) that has aligned herself with Gaetz, also going toe-to-toe with MTG.
The opposition to McCarthy will never rally enough votes to oppose McCarthy, but they can possibly get some demands from McCarthy.
Quite frankly, I have seen their demands, and they are far from out of line.
They can get this worked out, but McCarthy is going to have to sit down and talk with them if he wants to hold that gavel.
