Two GOP Senators just did the unthinkable.
They helped push a Biden nominee through committee.
Now, that nominee, someone that has serious sexual harassment concerns in his office, is likely to get a key ambassadorship in this administration.
Thanks, Boys
The nomination of former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti for the ambassador to India has been stalled for more than 600 days.
This is because there were very serious sexual harassment allegations against his office.
Garcetti was not involved, but he ignored the allegations that were made, which his why, among others, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) was holding up the nomination.
Sens. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) and Todd Young (R-IN) just broke the stalemate, however, and are voting with Democrats to move the nomination forward.
In defense of their actions, Hagerty’s office stated that “for more than two years, the Biden administration and Senate Democrats have failed to get a Senate-confirmed Ambassador to India — the world’s largest democracy, a rising economic power, and one of our most important strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific.
“As a former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Senator Hagerty knows firsthand that this is a critical U.S. diplomatic position and believes the Senate should vote on it.”
Young stated, “It’s a national security imperative to immediately have an ambassador in place in India. We can’t afford to wait any longer.”
Naomi Seligman, Garcetti’s former communications director and a whistleblower who testified to sexual abuse at Los Angeles City Hall, was beside herself.
She stated, “Today’s vote, on International Women’s Day no less, shows a real disconnect between the rhetoric we hear from elected leaders who claim to support victims of workplace sexual harassment and the pass they give to party loyalists in the next breath. It’s disheartening to say the least.
“It was already clear from the time of his nomination that Garcetti was unfit to represent our country, and each passing month reveals new embarrassments to the president and the Senate.”
Nice job, guys.
